Frequently Asked Questions
- How are diagnostic test results managed?Test results are only given to the patient concerned, these results may be given over the phone by an experienced practice nurse, however you may be asked to make an appointment with your Doctor to follow up.
- How do I get a medical certificate?Medical Certificates can be provided by your doctor following a consultation, unfortunately, they cannot be backdated. Please try to present early in your illness should you require this service.
- Is it possible to have telephone consultations?Emergency Phone calls will be forwarded directly to the Doctor; however it is unsafe to consult on an illness over the phone. In keeping with our philosophy of best practice, telephone consultations will not be carried out and patients are encouraged to make an appointment with the receptionist. If you require nursing advice you may be directed to an experienced practice nurse.
- How is my confidentiality and privacy managed? The practitioners at Dee Why Family Medical Centre adhere to the AMA code of Ethics regarding Privacy and Confidentiality, please be assured that your medical records and consultations are kept in the strictest confidence.
- Can I see a doctor at home or after hours?Unfortunately our doctors are no longer able to provide after hours care, we are therefore using a medical deputising service. Family Care Medical Services can be reached on 13 SICK (13 7425). Alternatively you can call the After Hours GP Helpline on 1800 022 222. This service will relay details of any visit to us the next working day. Home visits during our operating hours will be made at the discretion of your treating doctor. The service is available for regular patients whose condition prevents them from attending the surgery. Private fees may apply and will be discussed at the time of the appointment confirmation.
